A man takes a solo camping trip in the woods to clear his head. Accompanied only by his smartphone, he’s trying to get away from it all.
But in the middle of the night he encounters something genuinely terrifying — and unexpected.
Like many other horror shorts, genuinely skilled and well-crafted directing and editing ramp up the tension, immersing viewers in the fear and terrors of a protagonist faced with the unknown. And with its taut storytelling and a fantastic score, “Crittus” excels in the genre, keeping viewers guessing on what our lone camper is grappling with on his ill-fated trip.
But director Marcus Alqueres’s take has a surreal, sci-fi take on the genre, offering an intriguing, enigmatic story. Self-contained and economical, this short offers thrills and chills — as well as a world that begs for more exploration.
