The Itching by Dianne Bellino

A shy wolf tries to befriend a group of party-loving bunnies. But then, her body starts to revolt.

Filmmaker Dianne Bellino, in collaboration with animator Adam Davies, uses stop-motion animation to tell a mysterious fairy tale of a wolf trying to find her place in the world.

Living alone in a dark forest, the wolf longs to join a group of lively rabbits, who hang out, play music and have fun together.

But a strange ailment keeps the lonely wolf from being able to connect — and locked in her own fear, anxiety and vulnerability.

One rabbit takes pity on our wolf and sees beyond her differences, forming a beautiful, fragile friendship. But that friendship is tested as the wolf struggles with her secret torture.

You won’t believe how far she’ll go — and what she does to not be alone anymore.

Skillful stop-motion animation creates a world that is both beguiling and clever. But Bellino’s storytelling is rooted in the visceral human dilemmas we all face.

Anyone who’s ever struggled with feeling out-of-place in the world will find ‘The Itching’ mesmerizing, enchanting — and very relatable.
