8 Bullets by Frank Ternier

A grief-stricken French expat is obsessed with tracking down the man that killed his family.

Animator Frank Ternier tells the story of Gabriel, a grief-stricken French expat in Taipei who obsessively tracks down the man he believes is responsible for killing his family.

For a few months, Gabriel has been going to the Blue Note for a few beers. He’s obsessed with the smell of fried fish — it’s the only clue he has to track down the killer.

Every morning, he takes his daughter Yuan-Yuan to the French school. He normally walks with her, but today, he lets her to go on her own.

He smells the scent of fried food and begins to follow it to the Blue Note near Shida night market.

A flashback to a man bursting in with a gun. He tells everyone not to move. Then, he shoots.

Later that day, daughter stands in front of school, waiting for him to pick her up — he’s often late.

Cut to the attack. The killer screams at Yuan-Yuan, telling her not to cry. Then, not to move. When she can’t, he shoots her in the leg.

Meanwhile, Gabriel continues to follow the scent. Yuan-Yuan’s leg begins to hurt from waiting for him.

Gabriel goes back to the Blue Note. As he leans on the counter, he sees the killer. Suddenly, he remembers his daughter and hurriedly calls his son to go get her.

Back to the assault, the killer says he’ll kill him. As Gabriel struggles, he takes a bullet to the head.

Now, Gabriel follows the killer with a Glock and eight bullets. He’s certain it’s him — he recognizes the smell.

As he gets closer, he reaches inside his pocket. Then he calls out, “Remember me?” and shoots him eight times.
